Gamma Alpha Upsilon

Founded in 2011, the Sexual Identity Forum (SIF) provided an affirming and safe community for LGBTQIA+ students at Baylor University. In 2019, SIF rebranded into Gamma Alpha Upsilon, or Baylor GAY, to continue providing a safe and brave space for queer students at Baylor could come together and participate in activities, learn from student-lead lectures, and listen to guest speakers. From 2020-2022 I served as Social Media Manager and Publicity Chair, and during my final year 2021-2022, I was President. During the 2021-2022 school year, I and other LGBTQIA+ students at Baylor participated in a series of Listening Sessions with representatives from the administration through the Student Activities Office. In May 2022, PRISM was chartered, an official LGBTQIA+ student-led organization that can work within the “framework” of Baylor’s Statement on Human Sexuality. Gamma Alpha Upsilon’s work going forward will be under BU Bears For All 501(c)(3) to be the unofficial, unaffiliated LGBTQIA+ student advocacy group working to build an affirming environment that works outside the restrictions of official university policy to provide a community for all queer students with diverse needs, desires, and experiences.
